Abdulkadir Turay, a reporter for the pro-Kurdish Dicle News Ajansı (DİHA), was ordered arrested on May 5, 2016, prior to the July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
Turay and four politicians were taken into custody during a house search in Savur district in Mardin province.
All five were accused of “aiding and abetting an [illegal] organisation”, formally arrested and brought to the Mardin E-type prison.

A court in the southeastern city of Mardin on September 28 sentenced Abdülkadir Turay, a former reporter for the shuttered pro-Kurdish Dicle News Agency (DİHA) to nine years in prison for "being a member of a [terrorist] organization," the daily Evrensel reported.
