Küçük and lawyers representing the two sides were present during the hearing that took place in the İstanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.
In Küçük's defense he pointed out that he didn't say anything about Doğan himself. Küçük alleged that it is public opinion that columnists who write in publications of the Doğan Media Group support the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C). Küçük also defended his insult of Doğan by claiming that President Erdoğan had said that Doğan supports terrorism. Küçük claimed that Erdoğan said those who support terrorism, including Doğan, will get what they deserve. Küçük added that the Bakırköy Chief Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation to this end, against those who support terrorism. When asked by Doğan's lawyer, Şehnaz Yüzer, whether he has evidence to support his claims, Küçük said there are statements of some journalists along with President Erdoğan on the issue. When Yüzer asked him to explain how the journalists that Küçük targets support terrorism, Küçük said: “[CNN Türk anchorwoman] Şirin Payzın, [journalist] Mirgün Cabas and some other columnists and guests [attending Payzın's discussion program] supported terrorism with their attitude on the two incidents where two police officers were killed [in Ceylanpınar] and a prosecutor was killed in a courthouse. I regard their reactions [to the incident] as support [of terror].” Two police officers, Feyyaz Yumuşak and Okan Acar, were killed by PKK terrorists in Ceylanpınar on July 22. |
