Journalist Oktay Candemir faces investigation over social media post The Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor of Van has launched a criminal investigation against journalist Oktay Candemir on the allegation of “insulting the president” on account of a social media post in which Candemir made a witty remark and posted photos of President Erdoğan and the HDP provincial congress in Van. Journalist Oktay Candemir was taken into custody on 5 April during an early morning police raid on his house in the province of Van. Police searched Candemir’s apartment and took him to the Van Police Department. The grounds for Candemir’s arrest was not immediately available.
